Feb. 18, 1918
Montreal Canadiens goalie Georges Vezina recorded the first shutout in NHL history, blanking Toronto 9-0. It came in the third month of play, in the League's inaugural season.

 

 

Nov. 10, 1962
Glenn Hall, the 31-year-old Chicago goalie, was forced to sit out a game due to a back injury, ending a streak of 503 consecutive games played over seven years.

 

 

March 2, 1929
Goatender George Hainsworth became the first (and only) NHL netminder to record 20 shutouts in one season when the Montreal Canadiens beat the Boston Bruins 3-0. Hainsworth ended the season with 22 shutouts.

 

 


March 22, 1964
Boston Bruins' Ed Johnston (center) became the final goaltender in NHL history to play every minute of every game for an entire season.
